Sea1 orders additional energy support vessels from Chinese yard

Baird Maritime

Norwegian offshore support specialist Sea1 Offshore has placed an order for two additional offshore energy support vessels (OESVs) to be built by China’s COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry.

The OESVs belong to the same series as two earlier vessels that Sea1 had ordered from COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry in November 2024. All four will be used to support customers in renewables and oil and gas markets.

The two additional OESVs are scheduled for delivery to Sea1 in the third and fourth quarters of 2027.

Each OESV will have a length of 120 metres, a total cargo deck area of 1,400 square metres, a 250-tonne deck crane, a hangar for remotely operated vehicles, a moonpool, and accommodation for up to 250 personnel. The propulsion systems will include generators that will be methanol-ready and will be able to operate on 100 per cent biofuel.

Design work on the Sea1 OESVs will be undertaken by Norwegian naval architecture firm Skipsteknisk.
