Baird Maritime

Ha Long Shipyard in Vietnam has cut the first steel to be used in the construction of a new commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) ordered by Taiwanese offshore support company Ta San Shang Marine (TSSM).

Upon completion, the DNV-classed TSS Challenger will have an LOA of 88 metres, a beam of 19.7 metres, a draught of 5.4 metres, a gross tonnage of 6,700, three diesel generators, and a 1,700kWh battery. The generators will drive four 1,800kW azimuthing thrusters.

The deck equipment will include a motion compensated gangway, an offshore crane with a lifting capacity of 10 tonnes, and a boat landing at the stern with a height-adjustable platform and walkway.

Accommodation will be available for 120 personnel. Onboard facilities will include 90 cabins, cinemas, games rooms, two offices, a meeting room, a large gym, male and female changing rooms, a mess, a cafe, and a lounge. The vibration and indoor climate levels will meet DNV Comfort Class V-2 and C-2 requirements.

The weather deck will meanwhile be able to accommodate up to 14 twenty-foot containers while another five containers can be stored in the onboard warehouse. The weather deck will also have an IMDG store room for packaged dangerous goods.

The TSSM CSOV can be converted for green methanol as a fuel in the future. Tanks, cofferdams, fuel preparation spaces, and ventilation ducts will already be provided to allow for a future retrofit, which can be performed without major reconstructions to the vessel.
