United Kingdom: Macduff Ship Design is continuing to enlarge its list of overseas clients with the announcement it has been awarded contracts from companies in Saudi Arabia and Europe.
Currently, Macduff designed vessels are under construction in China, Turkey and the Middle East with recent newbuilds completed in Malaysia, Croatia, Canada and Finland.
The first of the new export orders is for Zamil Offshore Shipbuilding and Ship Repair in Saudi Arabia. It is a multi vessel contract consisting of two 19-metre, 22-knot pilot vessels and a 13-metre general purpose mooring launch.
The pilot vessels will be based on the 21.4-metre pilot vessel 'John Rae', delivered to Orkney Council this year and built to a Macduff concept design.
With steel hulls and aluminium wheelhouses the vessels will accommodate a crew of three.
The 13-metre mooring launch features a steel hull and aluminium wheelhouse and will have a maximum speed of 11 knots. Based on the 14.6-metre 'Boyne Protector', built for Drogheda Port in Ireland in 2006, the vessel will be used for general ship support within harbours in the kingdom.
Macduff has been contracted to provide all design and construction drawings, outfitting and engineering drawings, full technical information and cutting files for all vessels.
The second of the export orders is for a compact ASD harbour tug for a leading European tug operator.
Based on the success of the 16-metre 'Sally McLoughlin' delivered a year ago the new design is the result of intensive development to optimise hull efficiency, maximise performance and increase safety levels. Macduff is responsible for the complete engineering of the project including the supply of cutting information.
