Hellespont Hammonia took delivery of a new platform supply vessel destined for the African market in December 2009.
The company, based in Germany, took delivery of 'Hellespont Defiance' from Cochin Shipyard in India, the first of two sister vessels from the yard built to the Ulstein UT755LN design.
The vessel is 73.6 metres long and 16 metres wide and has a clear deck area of 680 square metres. It is powered by two Ulstein Rolls-Royce Bergen KRMB9 diesels each with a total power of 2,725kW at 825rpm. There are two 600kW Kamera-Ulstein tunnel thrusters in the bow and two 500kW Kamewa-Ulstein tunnel thrusters in the stern.
A DNV class notation of E0 means the vessel is fitted with extra monitoring and alarm systems on the bridge and in the chief engineers' cabin so that it is not necessary for the engine room to be manned 24 hours while voyaging.
The CLEAN notation means the vessel will be operated according to approved fuel, ballast and garbage management plans.
The vessel has good fuel oil, drill water and cement carrying capacity, says fleet manager, Captain Andrew Lidgard, and ten mud/brine tanks which can be used for storage offshore when the mud will be used in multiple drill holes.
'Hellespont Defiance' will be managed from Hellespont's Singapore office and will join two sister vessels already working in the African offshore market on long-term charter. Two more vessels, one from Cochin Shipyard and another from Labroy Marine in Batam, Indonesia, are expected to follow in the near future.
