Offshore momentum builds for Murphy Oil in Vietnam and Ivory Coast

Reuters

Murphy Oil said on Monday it made an oil discovery in offshore Vietnam and successfully appraised a separate prospect in offshore Ivory Coast, while also reporting first oil from a development project in Vietnam.

Murphy reported an oil discovery at the Lac Da Trang North-1X offshore well in Vietnam, which encountered 131 feet of net oil pay.

The company achieved first oil from the Lac Da Vang Vietnam offshore field on September 27 and expects net peak production of about 10,000 to 15,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2028 - 2029.

It said the Lac Da Trang discovery could potentially be tied back to the nearby Lac Da Vang field, which recently achieved first oil.

The oil operator said the Bubale West-1X appraisal well offshore Ivory Coast encountered about 88 feet of net oil pay, along with additional hydrocarbons in a deeper reservoir.

Murphy said its Chinook number eight well in the Gulf of Mexico began producing at an initial gross rate of about 15,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Murphy holds an 85 per cent stake in the Ivory Coast block and a 40 per cent stake in the Vietnam block, where it is the operator.
