Repsol UK offshore workers accept new pay deal, ending strike action

Alan Bosworth

Over 200 offshore workers employed by Repsol Resources have accepted an enhanced pay and conditions offer, bringing their industrial dispute to an end, the Unite union confirmed on August 12. As a result, a series of planned strikes on eight of the company's platforms have now been cancelled.

The two-year pay deal, which was successfully negotiated by the union, is worth 8.5 per cent. Workers will receive a 4.5 per cent pay increase in 2025/26, followed by a further four per cent in the second year due to changes in shift rotation allowances. The Repsol workers had previously rejected several other pay offers. Planned strikes for August 13 and 28, as well as for September 4, have now been called off.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham stated that the deal, "only came about due to our members standing firm and being prepared to take strike action".

While the Repsol dispute has been resolved, the union noted that other offshore workers remain in disputes over pay and conditions. A further 130 CNOOC workers on the Buzzard, Scott, and Golden Eagle platforms are currently being balloted on industrial action after rejecting a 4.25 per cent pay increase offer. That ballot closes on August 28.

In a separate dispute, around twenty offshore medics employed by MCL Medics, who work on Harbour Energy assets, are also being balloted on strike action, with their vote set to close on August 26.
