FPSO system failures result in cut outlook for Karoon Energy's Brazil energy project

Karoon Energy has cut the production outlook for its Baúna project in Brazil due to operational disruptions, the Australian oil and gas producer said on Tuesday.

The company has reduced its production outlook for the Baúna project for 2024 to 7.2-7.4 million barrels of oil from a previous outlook of 7.5-7.7 million barrels of oil, following the disruptions.

Two of the 16 chains that lift its floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) system failed, causing the Baúna project to shut down on December 11, Karoon said.

The company said it has mobilised an anchor handling vessel with FPSO operator AlteraOcyan to assist with the system's positioning, while a second vessel will be sent out to repair the anchor chains.

The Baúna project is expected to resume production during the week of December 23, when repairs are expected to be completed on at least one of the anchor chains, the company said.

Karoon also reduced its production outlook for its Who Dat project in the US Gulf of Mexico to 2.9 million barrels of oil equivalent as the maintenance shut-down period was extended due to Hurricane Rafael.
