COSL signs for second survey vessel

Valentine Watkins

China Oilfield Services (COSL) has recently signed a contract with Shanghai Shipyard Co for construction of a second 12-streamer seismic survey vessel of Skipsteknisk's ST-327L CD design.

The vessel will be named 'HYSY 721' and is following the 'HYSY 720', a vessel commissioned from Shanghai Shipyard in 2011.

Since undergoing operations in spring 2011, the 'HYSY 720' has proven to be a "very effective and reliable vessel; qualities that COSL want to bring forward in the new ship," Skipsteknisk stated.

The 'HYSY 721' is scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2014 and will mainly be operating in the South China Sea.

"Skipsteknisk is very pleased with COSL's decision to use the ST-327 design also for this new vessel, which means a continuation of a very good relationship between the two companies," the Norwegian naval architect continued.

"The contract also affirms Skipsteknisk's growing presence and focus on the Chinese market, where several ST-designs have already been successfully delivered, and where Skipsteknisk is present with its own office in Shanghai since 2010."

The 'HYSY 721' will be the sixth seismic survey vessel based on the ST-327 design.
