Walsh Services Solutions of Kalamazoo, Michigan, has secured a US$39.3 million maintenance dredging contract at Fairport Harbor, Ohio, the US Department of War said on Friday, September 25.
The $39,304,987 firm-fixed-price award drew four bids. The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Buffalo District is the contracting activity, with work expected to be completed by September 14, 2029.
The department obligated $39,304,987 in fiscal 2026 civil construction funds at award.
The related federal solicitation described a three-year maintenance dredging requirement at Fairport Harbor.
In a May 2025 release, the USACE described Fairport Harbor as a deep-draught commercial harbor. In 2022, it recorded 1.5 million tons of cargo, 76 per cent of it limestone.
The corps said dredging maintains depths for large vessels and supports the movement of commodities across the Great Lakes.
In May 2025, the Buffalo District awarded a separate US$5.3 million dredging contract for Fairport. That award formed part of US$9.3 million in contracts for work at Fairport and Conneaut harbors announced by the district that month.
The Fairport project announced in 2025 included removal of about 150,000 cubic yards (110,000 cubic metres) of material. Work was to proceed upriver from the harbour mouth to the federal navigation channel’s upper limit, and the dredged material was slated for nearshore areas and an upland processing facility.
