UK's Maldon District Council approves quay dredging works

The Maldon District Council in the UK recently confirmed that it has been agreed that a major project to dredge Hythe Quay and the Visitor Pontoon in Maldon will go ahead.

The project will ensure that the quay and pontoon area are suitably dredged, enabling vessels – including the town's Thames Sailing Barges, which are moored at the quay – to manoeuvre safely and continue to use the quay and pontoon area.

This dredging effort will support the continued presence of the Thames Sailing Barges in the district, thereby supporting tourism and local businesses. Additionally, it will encourage more use of the Visitor Pontoon by visiting vessels.

The dredging work will be delivered in collaboration with the Maldon Harbour Improvement Commissioners, the National Trust, and other key stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of the project.

"The dredging work is essential for the continued use of Hythe Quay and the Visitor Pontoon," said Kevin Lagan Chair of the Hythe Quay Desilting Task and Finishing Group.
