Matthews Brothers Dredging has been awarded a US$16,148,700 contract for maintenance dredging of the Houston Ship Channel in Harris County, Texas, the US Department of War said on Friday, September 25.
The US Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) Galveston District is the contracting activity for the firm-fixed-price award. Matthews Brothers’ bid was one of three received, and the work is scheduled for completion by April 9, 2027.
FY2026 civil construction funds covered the full US$16,148,700 obligation when the award was made. The SAM.gov award record listed the same figure as the total value, including the base and all options, under contract W912HY26CA037.
The USACE Galveston District’s solicitation described work generally from Sims Bayou through and including the Upper Turning Basin. It includes options to dredge docks and directs that dredged material be placed at the Rosa Allen Placement Area.
A procurement summary gave an estimated quantity of about 800,000 cubic yards (610,000 cubic metres) and identified mechanical and pipeline dredging as potential methods for the work.
Port Houston said dredging is needed year-round to keep navigation channels at depths suitable for ships and barges. Project 11, a separate channel-improvement program, will widen the Galveston Bay section and deepen certain sections farther upstream.
