Marine services company Boskalis has completed a dredging project lasting more than six months at SOHAR Port and Freezone in northern Oman. The work was carried out to support the construction of a new Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal.
During the project, approximately four million cubic metres of sand was dredged. The company's trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD), Coastway, was deployed on the project from start to finish.
Several other vessels were also utilised for the work. The TSHD Willem van Oranje performed the bulk dredging for the new terminal, while the backhoe dredger Colbart, supported by the crew boat Lois L, dredged the shallow edges of the area.
Material dredged by the Colbart was transported to a designated disposal site by the pusher tug Aquamarine operating with a split hopper barge. In the project's final phase, the multicat vessel Sidi was used for levelling the seabed with a plough.
