Baggerbedrijf de Boer – Dutch Dredging took delivery of a new trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) in a ceremony in Haiphong, Vietnam, on Wednesday, August 26.
Magdalena was built by Nam Trieu Shipbuilding, a division under Shipbuilding Industry Corporation.
Design work on the vessel was undertaken by Royal IHC in compliance with Bureau Veritas class requirements.
The TSHD has an LOA of 79.95 metres, a beam of 15 metres, and a hopper capacity of 2,300 cubic metres.
The dredger's propulsion has been configured to ensure compliance with IMO Tier III and EU Stage V environmental standards.
The vessel was built as an upgraded version of Lesse, an earlier TSHD that was handed over to Baggerbedrijf De Boer in 2019. Both dredgers have the same overall dimensions and hopper capacity.
The newer TSHD was also designed to maintain coastal and inland waterways and is capable of dredging at depths of up to 30 metres.
The same Royal IHC basic TSHD design was also used for River Thames, which was delivered to DEME in 2020.
