United Kingdom: Solar Solve Marine has received an order to supply 11 of their Solasafe roller sunscreens for installation at the bridge windows of the fleet replenishment vessel RFA 'Fort Victoria'.
The vessel was built by Harland and Wolff and delivered to the British Ministry of Defence in 1993 with Solasafe screens installed at windows located in various parts of the vessel, including the navigation bridge, flying control room and replenishment at sea control areas.
The new screens for the navigation bridge were needed as additional equipment, as part of the vessel's refit and upgrade to a revised role with the aim of providing 'Fort Victoria' with an independent boarding capability as well as a combined capability in conjunction with a destroyer or frigate.
"I'm informed that the reason these roller screens were ordered by Fort Victoria's staff is to reduce the bridge temperature and give protection against ultra violet rays. This is exactly what they do but they have the added advantages of cutting down solar glare resulting in reduced eyestrain. They also contribute towards power saving costs and less greenhouse gas emissions," said John Lightfoot, Solar Solve Marine's chairman.
