The Netherlands: Van der Velden Marine Systems will exhibit at the Europort 2009 in Rotterdam, from November 3 to 6. The stand will showcase a complete rotor bow rudder system, type RMS 2000 V.
The rotor bow rudder system is based on the Magnus effect, whereby a pressure differential is generated by a placing a rotating cylinder in oncoming water currents. This results in a thrust force that is larger than a conventional rudder as well as a significant enhancement in manoeuvrability.
Available in vertical and retractable versions, the advanced Van der Velden RMS 2000 system can be applied on all vessels and motor barge push combinations. It offers major advantages on meandering rivers and during (cross) winds.
The rotor cylinder is made of high quality, corrosion-free composite materials. Its low weight enables the rotation direction to be quickly changed and the excellent dimensional stability prevents any permanent damage when hitting objects under water.
The system is actuated by a frequency controlled electromotor. Frequency control engineering makes it possible to switch seamlessy from low to high speeds (and vice-versa) and to steer from port to starboard in only a few seconds.
Rudder models and control panels for inland waterways
The company will also showcase a huge range of different products like models of the Van der Velden HD 220 rudders and the DOLPHIN (XR) manoeuvring systems.
There will also be models of the electro-hydraulic SP 2525 and the full hydraulic HP 6000 control panels.
These panels have been adjusted in accordance with the latest European safety regulations (Protocol 25).
Products for oceangoing vessels and yachting
The Van der Velden stand will also exhibit the Van der Velden Commander rotary vane steering gear, the revolutionary EPS thruster and the original Barke rudder. The benefits of the Barke rudder ensure excellent manoeuvrability and course keeping qualities.
The high-lift design results in minimal wear on the linkage and reduces noise and vibration.
