Mercury expands FourStroke outboard range

Valentine Watkins

Outboard manufacturer Mercury has recently expanded its range of "clean, quiet, and fuel efficient" outboard power units with the addition of 59kW and 74kW models (named the 80hp and 100hp, respectively).

"This means mariners in Australia and New Zealand now have the choice of 55, 59, 67, 74 and 85 kilowatt-rated outboards in the Mercury FourStroke mid-range family. By introducing these two new models we're giving consumers the chance to get the right engine at the right price," said Nicholas Webb, Mercury's director of outboard product for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.

The two new models, based on the Verado platform, are "built to deliver long-term reliable performance," Mr Webb continued.

"Our fully filtered air intake protects internal engine components from potentially damaging dust and sand, while our advanced anti-drain-back oil system assures instant lubrication on start-up. In addition, the use of shared Verado components ensures the ultimate in mechanical toughness and reliability."

Boasting more fuel-efficiency compared to an equivalent two stroke engine, these FourStrokes are SmartCraft-capable. Mercury's "SmartCraft" engine management system adjusts each engine to perform "at its best", while providing continuous information directly to the helm. SmartCraft provides a full picture of fuel consumption, range, remaining fuel and more at the push of a button, as well as capable of linking via a gateway with NMEA 2000-compatible devices.

Corrosion-resistant and with an exclusive three-year limited corrosion warranty, Mercury FourStrokes enjoy "powerful saltwater protection by incorporating more stainless steel components, hard anodizing, engineered polymers, and an exclusive multi-step painting and coating process."
