Korea: Hyundai Heavy Industries has produced an aggregate of 20 million horsepower (14.9 million kW) in four-stroke engines in the record time 19 years and seven months.
Hyundai has produced 9,089 medium-speed engines since the production of the first medium-speed engine in August 1990. It has produced about 4,000 engines with ten million bhp in three years after recording an accumulated ten million bhp production of mid-sized marine engines in 2007.
Hyundai Heavy Industries accounts for 25 percent market share of the four-stoke marine engine market as of 2009.
Medium-speed engines ranging from 447kW to 9,694kW are used as the power generator on large sized vessels, propulsion systems of medium sized ships and as the prime mover in on-ground power facilities.
Hyundai Heavy has a capacity of 1,800 units of medium-speed engine, with the regularly updated HiMSEN engine being the most popular based on its reliability and versatility.
Hyundai Heavy Industries has had a 35 percent market share of the marine engine market since 1988.
