HHI achieves marine engine milestone

South Korea: Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has achieved an aggregate of 67 million kW in two-stroke engine production.

HHI set the record in just 30 years since the production of its first marine diesel engine. HHI reached the production milestone of 67 million kW in two-stroke engines with the completion of a 69,620kW engine for an 8,600TEU containership on September 10.

The 69,620kW engine is HHI's 3,020th engine which has the same power as 670 cars. The engine is 25 metres long, 15 metres high, 19 metres wide and weighs 2,100 tonnes. The engine also features twelve cylinders, each with a diameter of 98cm.

HHI produced its first marine engine in June 1979.
