The 3,500TEU container ship 'HS Chopin' has become the 2,000th vessel to be equipped with DNV's Navigator software.
Navigator is a software package that simplifies port clearance procedures and ensures that the crew have the information needed for any port in plenty of time before the ship arrives. Introduced back in 2002, the system offers a comprehensive all-in-one database, with worldwide port information, regulations, procedures and port clearance forms.
Information about all the main ports and terminals is updated in Navigator. More than 1,200 port clearance forms containing ship information are pre-filed. Navigator also contains tailor-made checklists, a comprehensive nautical library, relevant data logs for the rapid reporting of forms, environmental documentation and detailed references to relevant regulations – among other things. With 2,000 ships of all types and sizes now using the tool, DNV claims that the amount of paperwork is reduced by up to 90 percent.
