UK-based EMS Satamatics has announced the integration and support of the Satamatics Long Range Identification & Tracking (LRIT) solutions within the CLS (Collect Localisation Satellites) Application Service Provider (ASP) platform.
CLS's first tests on the Ocean Alert LRIT and the SAT-201i-LRIT solutions were recently completed.
The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) contracted with CLS to provide the LRIT data centre and associated ASP services on behalf of all EU member states plus Iceland and Norway.
CLS is the largest LRIT data centre with approximately 10,000 registered vessels. It also supplies these services for several other SOLAS contracting governments.
Under the International Convention for SOLAS, LRIT compliance became mandatory in January 2009 for thousands of vessels worldwide and applies to vessel types engaging in international voyages, such as passenger ships (including high-speed craft, cargo ships at or exceeding 300GT) and mobile offshore drilling units. Proof of conformance of both the ship's LRIT and SSAS obligations is mandatory for the annual vessel radio survey.
