The Russian Federal Agency for Fishery reports that modernisation work has been completed on the Russian freezer trawler Nikolay Nechai, thus allowing the vessel to also be used for seine fishing.
Upon returning to operational service, the vessel will be operated in the Baltic, Black and Caspian Seas, where it will focus on herring. The Federal Agency for Fishery expects that the vessel will be able to catch up to a thousand tonnes per month.
The other works undertaken on Nikolay Nechai as part of the modernisation included replacement of the main engine with a more powerful unit; incorporation of a new bow shape; installation of modern fish processing facilities; and increasing the size of the superstructure to accommodate additional berthing spaces and work areas.
The existing trawling equipment layout has been rearranged on the deck to permit the installation of additional fishing and lifting equipment. The vessel can now haul catch onboard using either a crane for unloading on the deck or a vacuum pump fitted on an overboard trawl.
Nikolay Nechai is owned by the Marfish Group. The modernisation works were carried out in the city of Svetly in the Kaliningrad region.
