Russian fishing company Norebo has bought three unfinished Project 170701 freezer trawlers from United Shipbuilding Corporation business unit Severnaya Verf, according to the yard's report for the first half of 2026.
The transaction was identified by local financial newspaper Vedomosti, which matched yard numbers in the report with those of the trawlers Norebo had ordered. The vessels are Kapitan Breikhman, Kapitan Tuzov and Kapitan Abakumov.
All three were ordered under Russia's investment quota programme for operations in the Northern Fisheries Basin, including the Barents Sea and the North Atlantic. Kapitan Breikhman was launched on May 25, 2022, Kapitan Tuzov on October 26, 2022, and Kapitan Abakumov on March 29, 2024.
Only three of the 10 trawlers Norebo originally ordered now remain with Severnaya Verf.
Kapitan Breikhman was moved along the Neva River from Severnaya Verf to Norebo's Otradnoye shipyard during the night (local time) of August 7–8. Design bureau Petrobalt, which prepared the transfer using modified STO1500 transport equipment to reach the draught required for the river passage, said all three vessels will go to Otradnoye for completion and subsequent delivery to the customer.
Norebo ordered six Project 170701 trawlers in 2017 and another four in January 2019. The first in the series to be delivered to the owner was Kapitan Sokolov, which was completed in 2023.
Norebo fishing companies are pursuing claims against Severnaya Verf over delays. Subsidies freed by cancelled Norebo contracts have since been proposed for completing another delayed trawler.
The Project 170701 trawlers will each have a length of 82 metres, a beam of 16 metres, a maximum draught of 6.3 metres, a speed of 15 knots, and accommodation for 80 crew. Processing capacity is 150 tonnes per day, freezing capacity is 100 tonnes per day, and total hold volume is 1,875 cubic metres.
