Pesantar, an Argentine company specialising in toothfish fishing, which has Newsan and Profand as its main shareholders, has commissioned the construction of a new freezer trawler.

The new fishing boat, which will be built by Nodosa Shipyard, will be 85 metres long and have a daily production capacity of up to 80 tonnes.

"With the improvement in the operational efficiency of the new ship, annual exports are expected to increase by 15 per cent," said Nodosa.

Construction of the vessel will begin in the first quarter of 2025, with delivery scheduled for April 2027. Nodosa said the vessel would feature more efficient machinery and energy recovery systems to reduce fuel consumption.

The vessel design has been optimised to operate specifically with fishing gear for catching toothfish, with the goal being to increase operating days, improve the quality of the products obtained, and reduce operating costs.

The project will incorporate a fishmeal plant and an advanced freezing system. At 85 metres long by 14 metres wide, the new vessel will replace Pesantar's Echizen Maru.
