Faroese owners acquire Icelandic pelagic trawler for blue whiting fishing

Karstensens is modifying the pelagic vessel for stern discharge before its arrival in the Faroe Islands. The new owners expect several weeks of work and have 7,000 tonnes of blue whiting quota remaining this year.

A Faroese ownership group led by Ango took over the Icelandic pelagic vessel Margret in Skagen, Denmark, on Tuesday, September 29.

The vessel will be renamed Ísborg, with Vágur on the Faroese island of Suðuroy as her homeport. The new operation will continue under the Ango name.

Denmark’s Karstensens Skibsvaerft is carrying out the modifications in Skagen. The owners expect the work to take several weeks, after which the vessel is due to sail to the Faroe Islands.

The group said it has 7,000 tonnes of blue whiting quota remaining to fish in 2026.

The owners have not disclosed the price paid for Margret.

The ownership brings together the Ango business in Vágur and the owners of Sp/f 07.05.2026, which held half of Kinnfelli. These interests formed the partnership that has now acquired the Icelandic vessel.

The previous Ango vessel, also named Ango, was sold to Morocco earlier this year.

Before Margret’s acquisition, the combined interests had been looking for another vessel to operate under the new arrangement.

Ango, Gráastein and half of Kinnfelli had initially sought approval for a wider merger.

Gráastein withdrew after approval was granted, leaving Ango and the half of Kinnfelli represented by Sp/f 07.05.2026 to proceed together.

At that time, Ango’s blue whiting quota was being carried on Jupiter. Licences associated with the other partner had been temporarily transferred to the small fishing vessel Gudrun.

The purchase of Margret was announced six days after that report.

Ísborg was built in Norway in 2008. The pelagic vessel measures 72 metres long and 15 metres wide and has a capacity for about 2,000 tonnes of catch.
