Norwegian shipbuilder Salthammer Båtbyggeri handed over the hybrid fish farm workboat Kaizen to Freyja Fleet Management on Wednesday, October 14.

The vessel is the first newbuild the yard has delivered to Freyja. She was designed by Tomra Engineering in collaboration with Salthammer and the operator.

The new workboat is fitted with a 1,600kWh battery that can be charged via shore connection. The companies said this capability will allow continuous electric operation while working alongside fish pens in addition to significantly reducing CO2 emissions, fuel consumption, and noise.

The deck equipment includes two cranes while accommodation is available for up to five people.

Oddleif Wigdahl, Managing Director of Freyja Fleet Management, said the new workboat had been developed with an emphasis on reliability, the working environment and energy efficiency.

Kaizen joins the Freyja fleet of more than 20 vessels, which are available for rental to the aquaculture industry for routine operations as well as specialised work.
