Norwegian seafood investor Broodstock Capital has acquired a majority ownership stake in Neptun Salmo, a hatchery producer based in Nord-Trøndelag, Norway. The investment was made through a purchase of existing shares and an injection of new equity.
Established in 1990, Neptun Salmo produces hatchery fish and opened a new production facility with modern recycling technology in the summer of 2024. The company had sales of approximately NOK90 million ($8.6 million) in 2024 and has increased its annual production to approximately 5.4 million smolts for 2025.
Broodstock Capital stated the investment will serve as a platform to develop a larger, independent hatchery producer. Håkon Aglen Fredriksen, a partner at the firm, said the plan is to use Neptun Salmo's experience and technology as a base for further growth.
Neptun Salmo will continue to focus on producing hatchery fish for both traditional sea farms and post-smolt farms. As part of the acquisition, Broodstock Capital partners Håkon Aglen Fredriksen and Pål Kristian Moe will join the board, and industry advisor Terje Eidesmo will become the new chairman of Neptun Salmo.
