Australian-Singaporean partnership to study emissions reduction measures for shipping

The Australian government’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) have initiated a bilateral program designed to assist the Australian and Singaporean maritime and port sectors in significantly reducing their carbon emissions.

The Australia-Singapore Initiative on Low-Emissions Technologies for Maritime and Port Operations (ASLET) will support the establishment of green and digital shipping corridors between the two countries by the end of 2025.

The co-investment initiative supports the maritime and port sectors in Australia and Singapore to achieve zero and near-zero emissions while delivering bilateral economic benefit. Both Singapore and Australia will commit up to $10 million each in their respective currencies to deliver projects under the initiative.

ASLET aims to accelerate demonstration and industry deployment of zero and near-zero emissions fuels and technologies in maritime and port operations. The initiative will facilitate the research, demonstration, and commercialisation of zero and near-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emission technologies, fuels and/or energy sources for use in maritime shipping and port operations.

The initiative seeks to fund solutions that make use of technology from either Australia or Singapore and brings equitable benefit to both countries through deployment project pipelines.
