Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD) has placed an order for a new marine research vessel designed for operation in the Persian Gulf.

The 50-metre vessel will be used for a broad range of activities including marine surveys, fish stock assessments, environmental monitoring, and sample collecting.

Onboard facilities will include five laboratories, a compartment for storing diving gear, and a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) launch and recovery area.

The EAD vessel will be built by Spain’s Freire Shipyard with construction support provided by Abu Dhabi Ship Building. Delivery is scheduled for December 2022.
