Description
As tensions rise in the Pacific and Middle East, the US has prioritized sustaining and modernizing its navy now. The need for a modernized naval fleet has never been greater as state, regional and non-state actors have all been developing and acquiring emerging military capabilities to counter global anti-access/ area-denial threats. The Department of Defense is focused on developing these capabilities by striving to control crucial chokepoints and maintaining global freedom of the seas with its surface warfare assets. It has also determined US Naval forces must maintain a balance among all ship classes to ensure it can execute its responsibilities here and abroad.
