Compiled By Nick Widdows From Baird Maritime: The ferry industry, particularly in northern Europe and the British Isles, has done it tough for the decade prior to the publication of these excellent yearbook/directories. First, the extensive removal of generous “duty free” concessions removed one of their attractions. Next, the rapid growth of and vigorous competition between discount airlines made it hard for ferries to compete. This was capped off by the security paranoia arising from the New York September 11 attacks and, finally, the economic uncertainty following the Global Financial Crisis. A horrible decade. Nevertheless, in Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax as well as pure pax forms, the industry survives. This very well researched and high quality directory provides a detailed listing of all ferry owning organisations and their fleets. It covers everything from small cross-river punts to the largest Scandinavian “cruise” ferries. It covers them all: fast and slow, large, small and everything in between. The photographs are uniformly brilliant. Ordering Information: |
