The Scottish Government has commissioned a study into the impact of the global recession on Scotland’s fishing industry.

Scotland’s fisheries industry minister Richard Lochhead said that the government would support fishermen during difficult times.

“Our new economic impact assessment will provide a detailed picture of the issues and allow us to work with the industry and Europe to map out a profitable future for our fishermen.”

The minister said he had also written to EU Fisheries Commissioner Joe Borg to request a meeting to discuss the study and other such similar works on a European level.
