Missing Malaysian oil tanker found in Indonesia
A Malaysian oil tanker that had been reported missing has been found near the island of Batam, Indonesia.
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency reported that the vessel had strayed due to a “misunderstanding” between the ship’s crew and the operator – not hijacking as had initially been suggested.
However, the New Straits Times reported that members of the 10-man crew had had a disagreement with their employer, resulting in them taking matters into their own hands.
The tanker, the ‘Vier Harmoni’ had been carrying around 870,000 litres of diesel valued at US$400,000, CNN reported.
A hijacking had been feared due to a number of recent incidents in the area.
